Hologram is something I fancy for some time now. Ever since I first watched Tony Stark in action as Iron Man many years ago in the American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics, I haven’t stopped thinking about what the world would be like to be immersed in holograms.
The HoloLens is Microsoft’s holographic, augmented reality headset that allows you to experience next generation holograms. It resembles a headgear that is crafted with a body that’s made out of two rings with a lens.
The HoloLens provides a hands-free hologram experience that you won’t find in other devices of its kind. Moreover, Microsoft truly hits the spot with its impressive resolution. It is so immersive it really felt like I was surrounded by floating holograms.
But then, the HoloLens is approximately 600 grams and it’s not a light enough device to wear for long periods of time. The field of view of the display can certainly benefit from improvements and there’s a learning curve on how to interact with finger gestures. And, the HoloLens is priced at a whooping USD3,000. This definitely renders it not affordable for the masses.
With the release of HoloLens 2, I hope the above-mentioned issues will be resolved. Until then, you will want to get in touch with a tech partner to feel first-hand the hologram experience and what it’s probably like to be Iron Man.
